Sod Room: Week Three & Four

Last week, we sang about Zoo Animals and this week we are singing about Transportation.

Here are a few songs to try at home!

The Animals in the Zoo
(Tune: The Wheels on the Bus)

The snakes in the zoo go hiss, hiss, hiss
Hiss, hiss, hiss. Hiss, hiss, hiss.
The snakes in the zoo go hiss, hiss, hiss
All day long!

What other animals can you and your child think of? What sound do they make?

"Going to the Zoo" is a fun Raffi song to listen to on the way to the Lincoln Park Zoo or at home when your playing with animals. (Click the image below to find the song on Amazon.com.)

Living in Chicago, we regularly see helicopters. Many young kids here can tell the difference the sound of a helicopter and an airplane. Here is a simple song to sing about helicopters. I like to sing this song while spinning scarves above our heads like the blades of a helicopter.

Helicopter
(Tune: Frère Jacques)

Helicopter. Helicopter.
Way up high. Way up high.
See the blades are spinning. See the blades are spinning.
In the sky. In the sky.

Happy Singing!

Zoo Animals

In my parent-child classes last week, we sang about the zoo and the animals that live in the zoo. Here is a simple song that would be easy to sing with any animal. It would be a fun song to sing while looking at a book about the zoo or visiting the zoo.

The Animals in the Zoo
(Tune: The Wheels on the Bus)

The snakes in the zoo say, "Hiss. Hiss. Hiss."
"Hiss. Hiss. Hiss."
"Hiss. Hiss. Hiss."
The snakes in the zoo say, "Hiss. Hiss. Hiss."
All day long!

The monkeys in the zoo say, "Ooo Ooo Ah!"
"Ooo Ooo Ah!"
"Ooo Ooo Ah!"
The monkeys in the zoo say, "Ooo Ooo Ah!"
All day long!

Other animals to sing about:
Lions
Elephants
Warthogs
Zebras
Giraffes
Kangaroos

Going to the Zoo is my favorite zoo song. I remember listening to this when I was young and it stands the test of time. The Raffi version is my personal favorite. (Click on the picture below to purchase it from Amazon.)

This is the best version of Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed. It is a great song to do tons of jumping and work some energy out.

All of this zoo talk has me looking forward to warmer weather and days at the Lincoln Park Zoo.

Happy Singing!
